Be Prepared

At few points do I channel Scar from the Lion King, but this song feels really good today:

So prepare for a chance of a lifetime
Be prepared for sensational news
A shining new era is tiptoeing nearer

ANYWAY.

Hello m'dears!

I am making progress in terms of finding places to stay and people to work with while I am abroad for my Watson year. I've been reaching out to libraries, botanical gardens, nature reserves, farmers, eco-lodges, homestays, writers, and bloggers. Some have reached back, and I'm still waiting on many promising leads. Please let me know if you have any suggestions or potential connections I could use! My packing list is well under way, but I'll take suggestions there too, should you wish to share them.

The big news for today is that I bought a tent! I'll be living in this tent for sure during some of my time in Dominica while at Gaiadid Gardens, and in Botswana while at the Mokolodi Nature Reserve, Mokolodi Backpackers, and Khama Rhino Sanctuary. I expect I may use it at other times in these countries, as well as in Australia and China. There are many camping opportunities I have yet to foresee, and I am psyched for them!

I hope to put this baby to good use here at home too, with a pending trip along the Long Trail in Vermont.

So, without further ado, please meet Sugar Mama:

Front door

Back door [friends are best?]

Home sweet home!

Sugar Mama is my new two person Sugar Shack 2 tent from EMS. It has nice mesh pockets on the sides and a canopy shelf which I can adjust to fit my bug net. It feels like it will comfortably sleep two snuggly people, and one very roomy single me. It feels like it may get hot inside, but it seems to ventilate well. I think I'll be happy in here.

I am off to a birthday party for now, but I hope you are having a bright summer day, and get some hiking and camping in for yourself soon too.

Much love,

Carrie

    1. Hey caityd! Thank you so much! I am going to be in Dominica from August to October. I will be sure to write all about my time at Gaiadid Gardens, and hope you'll return here to read about it. I hope you do visit Dominica this winter, and have an amazing time. Everything I've heard about the island so far seems very positive and exciting. Best of luck and love to you!
